The Party
Well I guess the dreaded party wasn't so bad afterall except for the dancing and my mate kept leaving sitting on my own a lot after begging me to go to keep her company - even her mum commmented on that a couple of times!
Anyway the buffet - always terribly important - was really great even though I didn't know what half the stuff was until I bit into it, but it was all really nice. Even Auntie Eleanors dumpling which I don't generally like.
As for the dancing.. well I managed to avoid it most of the night and I did have a legitimate excuse with just recovering from a sprained ankle and having rather higher heels than I'm used to! But Mezie's uncle, the one whose 60th birthday it was, seemed to be going round all the females getting them to dance with him and when he pulled her up he was like "you're next". I ran off to the loo.
But he did catch me unawares later and dragged me up. I got my usual dose of dancefloor paralysis and shuffled my feet a bit. I swear my arms are always stuck to my sides like one of those girls in the Impulse adverts. It wasn't good.
I also got up at the end for Auld Land Syne but thats just everyone in a circle joining hands so that I can manage!
Met a few more of her mad relations. They seemed nice except a few of them did like to keep telling us we looked like twins and one guy actually asked me if we still lived in Minishant. Uhm.. I'm just her friend! I dunno if he thought I was her MUM or just forgot she has a brother not a sister. But he was blind in one eye so I guess you can forgive him that! We've had this whole sisters thing a lot but to have her relations tell us they had to do a double take is quite alarming!! Trouble is we both have dark curly hair which is even about the same length now I've had mine cut again and are also about the same height. But aside from that I think our features are nothing alike so it always surprises me but at the same time its happened so often that it always makes us laugh.
Met one of her cousins who wouldn't have been out of place at my work with his sense of humour. He started telling us that Safeway had merged with MFI [after months of waiting to see who was going to take it over] and me and Mezie were totally falling for it hook line and sinker when he turns round and goes "yeah I bought a turkey and the next day the legs fell off!".
Believe it or not I actually drank alcohol too! 4 Archers Aquas is about the most I have drunk in one night in.. well a really long time!! I'm a total lightweight though as I could feel it going to my head a bit after 2.5 and I didn't feel terribly steady on those heels. I had to have a couple of cans of coke inbetween times.
Mezie managed to put all her food on the plate ON TOP of the napkin and didn't notice the plastic knives and forks so was wondering how the hell she was meant to eat the coleslaw with her fingers!! She was like "oh no!! now you're going to bring that up in a "do you remember the time you.." way!"
Oh and in the end I went with my jeans and brown boots along with my winey red blouse, matching [free from Boots!} bag and Dragon Blood red nail varnish. I matched!! woohoo!
Now I'm off to get dressed and go and visit some interesting Doors Open Day places.
